We're in Goshen!

Well, we did it! I can hardly believe it has all happened so fast:

middle of February: Heard of job in Goshen/interviewed/offered position/accepted position
start of March: Put house on market
start of April: Sold house/packed up/said goodbyes/moved to Goshen/Shawn starts today, 4.14

So, we got into town this past Thursday, and it has been a mixture of emotions! We are thankful for safe travels, reconnecting with my family who lives in town, but recognizing that we are experiencing a lot of culture shock! We went from lots of cars, big buildings, tons of shopping/museums/events, and even lots of sunny days...........to...............corn fields, buggies, getting across town in less than 5 minutes, and cloudy/cold days. Needless to say, the transition has been much more difficult than I thought. I know it always takes time to make new friends, and feel acclimated, so I suppose I should be more gracious to myself. I refuse to believe that we made a wrong decision to move, even though it feels like this often. It felt so right when we were in Denver...so why the questions now? Most of the time, I am somewhere between stuffing down tears, and feeling a panic attack! Transitions are hard!

I have been so thankful for my brother and his family. It's been so fun to have our kids play together, and Owen just LOVES them (and all their tractors)! That is definitly the bright spot in midst of all the confusion! I continue to pray for peace of mind, and a group of friends to connect with. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers during this time.

Hi, Rachel! I've been reading your blog since I'm a friend of Marika's...and I'm Hillary's sister. Moving can be such a hard transition and I want to invite you and your family to come check out Belmont Mennonite in Elkhart. There are TONS of young families and it might be a great place for you to connect with some people. The scenery in Goshen isn't great...but the people are! Good luck with this transition in your lives! Sarah Steiner

Rachel - we had dinner with Janice and Dallan this weekend and we were all wondering when your family would be arriving in Goshen. We often talk about why we live in this place too, but I have to agree with Sarah, it's the people and connections that we have that keep us here! We'd also love to see you at East Goshen, perhaps with Tyler...we've had a lot of new young families lately and it's been a real blessing to see our age group beginning to dominate! You are all in my prayers as you make such a big transition.

Rachel,
I think you and Sarah would totally hit it off! She would be a great connection.

Transitions like that are hard. It will take some time, but you will find your community. And if you don't, you can always come back to your community here. We already miss you and I'm looking forward to your visit in May!

Rachel-You already know that I'm here, but I wanted to put it in writing too. Hang in there. It's a HUGE transition, and it would be weird if it wasn't hard, but it's going to be great I just know it. ~Mandy
